Histochemical Studies on Surface Coat and Mucous Cells of the Several Organs in the Mouse

Abstract
To investigate the histochemical properties of the surface coat and mucous cells, several organs of the mouse were examined with periodic acid Schiff and colloidal iron techniques. And the following results were obtained.
1. Surface coats covering the free surface of the cell in the digestive tract were stained more deeply with the colloidal iron technique than with the PAS. Luminal surfaces of- proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney were intensely stained with PAS, while luminal surfaces of. thee distal convoluted tubules and collecting tubules were stained with colloidal iron technique.. The substances which invested the skeletal muscles were stained with both PAS and colloidal iron. techniques. Luminal portions of the seminiferous tubules of the testis were stained. deeply with the colloidal iron technique.
2. In the digestive tract mucuous cells of the submaxillary gland were stained with PAS, while serous cells, were stained with colloidal-iron technique. Goblet cells in- the duodenum, jejunum and. colon were stained intensely with PAS, while mucous neck cells in the stomach and goblet cells in the ileum were stained more deeply with colloidal iron technique than with the PAS.
